What we’re fighting for

We’re building a future where every Kentuckians has a real shot at stable, quality, affordable housing. From sealing unfair eviction records to investing in community land trusts, our campaign fights for long term solutions that put people – not profits – first.

What We’re Fighting For

We want to keep Kentuckians housed by:

1. Removing dismissed evictions from people’s records and preventing children from being listed on eviction filings.

Over 40,000 evictions are filed every year, and up to 45% of those eviction filings are dismissed–yet even these dismissed evictions follow you around for the rest of your life. Some of those filings also list minors–young people under the age of 18 who aren’t even old enough to sign a lease. Our past should not determine our ability to access safe and secure housing. We need to pass commonsense policies to fix this broken system.

2. Invest in community-focused, long-term housing solutions like community land trusts.

Community land trusts are a long-term affordable housing solution that keeps land in the hands of the people, not developers. It means homes stay affordable forever, not just for the next few years. It means families don’t get displaced just because someone else wants to make more money.

How it works: a nonprofit community group owns the land and keeps it in the community, so no one person can sell it or make it too expensive for regular people to live there. Individuals own the homes and can keep them or sell them. The housing on a community land trust is kept permanently affordable, allowing people to thrive. The neighborhood stays strong, instead of developers and wealthy investors coming into our communities, buying up land, and even making us leave. We only have three community land trusts in Kentucky and we deserve more!
